What uses the memory in Core Keeper

Caves are generated on first visit and saved from then on. The eight player slots barely matter; what raises the requirement is how much of the underground has been dug out, and a world mined for months carries noticeably more than a new one.

Where people get it wrong

Assuming a low player cap means a fixed figure. Exploration keeps adding to it, so give a world you intend to keep some room to grow.

Rather not run the server yourself?

These tools are free and funded by the two hosting services we run. If you want a server that is already set up, here they are.
