How the numbers are worked out
Every matrix has its own recipe and its own rate of consumption in the labs, so any research speed you aim for pins down a production rate for each matrix in the chain. The calculator starts from the research rate you want and works back to the labs and factories needed to sustain it.
The formula
- effective SPS = target SPS ÷ (1 + 0.2 × proliferator tier)
- labs = ceil(effective SPS × matrix craft time)

Common mistakes
Once unlocked, labs draw on every matrix type at the same time, so the slowest one sets the pace for the lot. Adding labs without fixing that bottleneck raises your power use and gains you no research.
