How the numbers are worked out

Each qualifying piece of furniture is worth one comfort point, but only one item per category is counted — four banners in a room earn exactly what one does. The calculator keeps track of which categories you already have, so you can see the gaps instead of adding more of what already counts.

The formula

comfort = 1 + Σ(value of each distinct item type)

Common mistakes

To count, comfort items must be close enough to the fire and under a roof. A beautifully furnished room with a hole in the ceiling scores well below what it looks like, and that is usually why a build falls short of the comfort its owner was aiming for.
