How the numbers are worked out
It is a fixed countdown that never pauses, so the only thing to decide is whether the trip there and back fits inside it. The calculator works back from your time limit to a safe distance to explore, including the walk home that people tend to leave out.
The formula
- minutes = base time + (altar level − 1) + skill bonus + flask bonus

Common mistakes
Shroud roots reset the timer, and knowing where the closest one is changes everything. Plan your route through them instead of treating each trip down as one fixed allowance.
